The Feel-Good Quiz

June 13, 2012

making a difference, being a friend, what matters most

Yesterday I came across the “philosophy” of Charles Schultz*, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip. I like to share it with you because it’s simple and profound. And it will make you feel good.

You don’t actually have to answer the questions. Just read through the whole text. You’ll get the point.

  • Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
  • Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
  • Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.
  • Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
  • Name the last half-dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
  • Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remembers the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields.

But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one:

  • Name three friends who helped you through a difficult time.
  • List three teachers who aided your journey through school.
  • Name five people who taught you something worthwhile.
  • Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
  • Think of five people you like to spend time with.
  • Name a half-dozen stories of people who have inspired you.

Is this one easier?

What’s the lesson? The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards, but are the ones who care the most.

I bet your friends have your name on their second list.

With Love,

Saskia

* The quiz is often credited to Charles Schulz, but the creator is unknown.

You are so right the famous people are definitely not the ones who makes a difference in your life.

Thanks, Saskia! This is a great reminder to cherish the important things in life! It’s not the awards and degrees that make the person. It’s definitely the connections we have with others and the love we share with one another that makes life special. Loving yourself, the people around you, and how you spend your time is the secret to soul satisfaction! We all have our purpose and winning trophies isn’t on the list! xo

Hi kim, I like the idea of soul satisfaction! Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that pushing to achieve is not what brings us happiness.
