You’ll love this: A Brilliant poem from Rumi

April 18, 2012

Rumi was an illuminated Sufi poet who writes in this poem about the growth of the Soul, and how you can transform your painful emotions into friends. I know you’ll find it inspiring!

“This being human is a guest house.

Every morning is a new arrival.

A Joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.”

The illuminated Rumi, Translated by Coleman Bars.

This poem is about seeing your emotions and pains as guests that come to say hello to you for a good reason. It’s about why you shouldn’t ignore them or numb out the pain because it’s about learning more about your unique Soul’s path.

Have the courage to welcome the sadness, the pain, and the fear instead of locking them out. Practice if you can perceive them as passing travelers on the road and ask them about their message.

Imagine that you open the door of your house and offer them a chair at your table. Ask your guest what it wants. Does it want to be heard? Does it want comfort? Does it want you to move forward and take the next step? Does it want to be reassured? Does it want you to have patience?

When the pain or emotions subside place a hand on your heart and ask for the deeper meaning of this situation. What is the best next step for you right now? Let the wisdom of your Soul Guide you.

Much Love,

Saskia

P.S. Watch with the eyes of the mirror and don’t attach meaning to what goes on in your life. Stay in neutral mind, don’t judge or make assumptions and experience how new doors can be opened with an attitude of allowing for a shift to take place.
